Meet Ogonna

Good design creates an equitable world.

In everything I do, I strive to craft a more humane society, the type I want to live in. I draw on my 8-year background in studying consumer behavior to design experiences that feel human.

Origin Story

After I turned 19, I migrated to Canada to study Economics. I wanted to learn how to solve Nigeria's poverty, income inequality and high unemployment rates.

While studying, I worked in many capacities including Lead Teaching Assistant, and Finance Intern at the Consulate of France. The latter was a feat, especially as my French proficiency was intermediate.

Between Writing, French and Economics courses, I discovered that economists solve problems for people, not with people—an ineffective approach for developing countries.

An Entrepreneurship course introduced me to design thinking and its use of collaborative problem-solving. This budding idea blossomed when I joined a Fintech startup and noticed how talking to our customers improved our software.

After graduating, I worked at this startup for over a year before leaving to get formal design training through a UX Design Diploma. During that program, I worked on exciting projects with Google and Hello Fresh.

I've now designed software for tiny and huge companies. I still get giddy when the opportunity to design for fintech, ethics, and public services arises. Perhaps it's because it brings me closer to ending poverty and improving people's social well-being.

Approach to Work

  • Humility - All I have, I have received. I’m a steward of my gifts and not an owner.

  • Kindness - I want to help others succeed.

  • Collaboration - The best ideas can come from anywhere.

  • Growth mindset - All challenges are an opportunity to grow.

  • Intention - Bad design harms people. Do it right the first time.

  • Courage - We hear a voice that tells us we're not good enough. I call it's bluff.

  • Meeting effectiveness - Provide resources for people to review before a meeting. Define the question you want to answer, the meeting length and the meeting leader.

  • Prototype everything - Visual aids are worth more than a thousand words.
